The basic word
Peptide is a description, not a treatment plan
In a few words
The small units used to build proteins have a name: amino acids. A peptide links those parts in a short chain.
A familiar example helps
Insulin is a peptide.
That example explains the word’s reach. It does not tell us whether another peptide will change body fat or muscle.
Instead of asking whether “peptides work”, ask which medicine is being discussed and which change it is meant to make. Keep those names in your notes.
Put a product name beside the wordAn umbrella word leaves gaps
The September 2026 US rules gave no shared approval to the phrase “peptide therapy”. Each drug needed its own check.
In compounding, the pharmacy or doctor prepares the medicine. The patient is not receiving a ready-made product from the drug company.
For each drug, the legal question is whether it has US approval or can be made under the compounding rules. Calling it a peptide does not give an unapproved drug permission to be sold.
A claim about a whole group is a reason to ask for a more precise answer. Write down the product, the proposed use and the source offered to support it.
